A pungent green herb with a great affinity for a variety of foods, from lamb to vegetables, stuffings and egg dishes. Oregano is closely related to marjoram. It is characteristic of many Greek dishes (particularly lamb) and in the UK is often sprinkled liberally on pizzas. Oregano grows easily in well protected areas in the UK. and are produced in clusters surrounded by bracts at the ends of each of the stems branches.

Interesting Fact: The ancient Greeks associated oregano with happiness and used chaplets of the herb to ‘crown’ newly married couples as a symbol of love, honour and happiness. If oregano was found growing on the grave on a loved one, they took that as a sign that the dearly departed was happy with the Gods.
